How do you de-stress? In today's fast paced society with everybody running around like crazy, getting things done sooner rather than later it is so important to T A K E • A • B R E A K every now and then and to simply take a step back from everything and B R E A T H E for a moment. Give your mind a break and calm your senses. On top of working out and eating well I make it a priority to give myself these time outs as much as possible. I love to spend time in nature, especially the woods as I find the forest has such a soothing and energizing effect on me. I look for a quiet spot and just sit there...me myself and I, listening to the sounds of the forest...🌿. That's how I de-stress and unwind. ...and just like that I decided to become a VEGAN. A couple of weeks ago I watched the documentary "What the Health" by Kip Anderson, which really opened my eyes with regards to the health risks linked to the consumption of animal products such as meat, fish, eggs and dairy. Numerous studies link them directly to diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart conditions. It's pretty scary if I think of how much cheese I used to eat when growing up as a child. I read one of the three books referenced in the documentary and that did it for me...it all made perfect sense and I was convinced. While I never considered myself a big meat eater, I occasionally enjoyed the "healthy" organic chicken breast or egg, thinking I needed to eat these foods for proper protein intake. Turns out the reason why animal meat contains proteins is because the animals eat plants (i.e. grass). Plants are the only organisms which are actually capable of producing amino acids. So why not skip the animal meat and consume the plant based protein ourselves? Think brown rice, lentils, broccoli, vegetables etc. There is really no need to eat animal meat for protein reasons. Animal meats, dairy and eggs all contain high levels of fat, which is the main cause for diabetes (yes, that's right: not sugar is the culprit but fat), cancer and heart disease. By cutting out these foods from your diet and adopting a plant based diet you can significantly minimize these risks. As cancer runs in my family this is worth a try for me and I am excited on embarking on this new journey, exploring different foods and recipes and seeing how my body will react. I have always been a big believer that your diet determines how you feel and look like on the outside. The documentary helped me realize that while you may look fine from the outside and be all toned and lean thanks to the proteins you consume (e.g. whey protein, proteins from white meat and fish), your arteries might be silently clogging up due to the fats found in those "healthy" foods. I highly recommend watching the documentary. Like I said, it was such an eye opener for me. Who knows, maybe it might be for you too.... #plantbased #plantprotein
CREAMY COCONUT MILLET PORRIDGE for breakfast 👏🏼😃 I started off my Sunday morning with one of my favorite porridge variations. I use #millet for my porridge as I am allergic to oats and I find it to be an excellent alternative. I use shredded millet, which is quicker to prepare and just heat it up with some coconut milk, add a table spoon of vanilla and cinnamon and basically add any topping I want...today it was my beloved #cherries again 🍒. Just a sprinkle of grounded flaxseeds and that's it. Super delicious and nutritious and it keeps me full for a long time. It's important to fuel your body with the right foods, especially for breakfast as it's the first meal of the day.
